Short answer
Yes, if you like shops, cafes and brand spaces more than palaces. Take Line 2 to Seongsu Station, come out of Exit 4 onto Yeonmujang-gil, the main street of a former shoe-factory district, and walk. Pop-up stores rotate every few weeks, so check brand Instagram accounts the week you go. Go on a weekday, arrive near 11am when most shops have opened, and finish in Seoul Forest, a free park by Ttukseom Station and Seoul Forest Station.

Is Seongsu-dong worth half a day?
Yes, if shops, cafes and brand spaces interest you more than another palace. Seongsu is where Korean fashion and beauty brands open flagships and test new products, in old factories and warehouses along a few walkable streets. If you do not care about shopping or cafe interiors, the draw is Seoul Forest next door, and the rest can wait.
The crowds are the proof of the pull. The Korea Herald, citing Seoul subway data, reported that Seongsu Station on Line 2 handled over 30 million passengers in 2024, against 18.5 million in 2014.

Half a day covers the main street, one or two flagships and a cafe. Add Seoul Forest and it becomes most of a day.
How do you get to Seongsu?
Take Line 2 to Seongsu Station and leave by Exit 4. The Korea Herald's shopping guide and Visit Seoul both start there, because Exit 4 opens onto Yeonmujang-gil, the street that holds most of the flagships. Olive Young N Seongsu is about 118m from that exit, according to Visit Seoul.
The west end of the area has its own stations. Ttukseom, the next Line 2 stop, serves Seoul Forest from Exit 8, and Seoul Forest Station on the Suin-Bundang Line serves it from Exit 3. The Seongdong-gu Office lists both exits, and the Seoul Forest Conservancy puts the walk at about 10 minutes from Ttukseom and about 5 from Seoul Forest Station.
Hongik University Station, the Hongdae stop, is also on Line 2, so a hotel there reaches Seongsu without a change. A ride costs the ordinary base fare on a transit card; the Seoul subway fares guide explains how distance and transfers change it.

What is Seongsu, and why is it called Seoul's Brooklyn?
A former factory district that turned into Seoul's trend street. The Seoul Metropolitan Government credits the nickname to its small factories, old warehouses and red-brick buildings. Visit Seoul says the area was once packed with some 3,000 manufacturers, including shoe factories, printers and car repair suppliers.
Shoes were the specialty. Visit Seoul says that at its peak Seongsu made 80% of the shoes hand-made in Korea, and the Handmade Shoe Street at 15 Yeonmujang 7-gil still has workshops and shared shops. The Korea Herald adds flour mills to the area's industrial past.
The change began in the 2010s, when factory buildings became cafes, design studios and galleries. The Korea Tourism Organization credits Daerim Warehouse, a red-brick building with its old signboards kept, with starting the warehouse-cafe look on Yeonmujang-gil. After the pandemic, the Korea Herald reports, brands chose Seongsu for pop-up stores and experiential shops.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government splits the area in two. Seongsu 1-ga, around Ttukseom Station, holds Seoul Forest and the Atelier street of workshops and cafes. Seongsu 2-ga, around Seongsu Station, holds Yeonmujang-gil, the cafe street and the handmade shoe street.
What is there to do in Seongsu?
Walk Yeonmujang-gil and go into the flagships and cafes that catch your eye. That is the whole method, and the sources below name places worth a detour rather than a checklist.
- Olive Young N Seongsu. The beauty chain's largest store, at 13 Yeonmujang 7-gil, open 10am to 10pm daily, with consultations and device trials, according to Visit Seoul. Its photo booth serves only the first 300 visitors a day.
- Musinsa Megastore Seongsu. The Korea Herald reports it opened in April 2026 on about 6,600 square metres, from the basement to the fourth floor, with about 1,000 brands. Passport verification unlocks an extra discount.
- Fragrance shops. Korea JoongAng Daily visited Korean fragrance brands in Seongsu in September 2026, including Tamburins, Nonfiction, Kinock, LOE and Anillo, where staff said 90% of customers are foreign.
- Onion Seongsu. A bakery cafe in a 1970s factory at 8 Achasan-ro 9-gil, per Visit Seoul.
- Seongsu Yeonbang. A complex of shops, cafes, restaurants, a brewery and pop-up space at 14 Seongsui-ro 14-gil, per Visit Seoul.

How do you find Seongsu's pop-up stores?
Check Instagram the week you travel. Visit Seoul points visitors to venue and brand accounts, such as Glow Seongsu, a space at 32 Seongsui-ro 16-gil that hosts rotating brands instead of permanent tenants. A pop-up's own account is the place to confirm its dates and hours.
Pop-ups are short. The Seongsu pop-ups in the Korea Tourism Organization's June 2026 list ran for about four to seven weeks each, and the list warns that schedules change. A pop-up you saw online last month has probably closed.
Do not plan a trip around one pop-up. Plan around Yeonmujang-gil and treat whatever is open as a bonus. If one pop-up matters to you, check its account the day before for queues or booking.
Is Seoul Forest worth adding?
Yes, if you want the day to end outdoors. Seoul Forest opened on 18 June 2005 on the site of a water treatment facility, and the Korea Tourism Organization lists it as free and open 24 hours all year. Facilities inside keep their own hours and closed days.
The park has themed zones, walking bridges and a fallow deer enclosure, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government. In autumn it is also one of the city's easier foliage walks, covered in the autumn foliage guide.

When is the best time to go to Seongsu?
On a weekday, arriving around 11am. Visit Seoul says weekends draw large crowds with queues at popular photo spots, and The Korea Herald's shopping guide advises weekdays for Musinsa Megastore Seongsu and warns that weekends mean a wait at Ader Error.
Mornings are quiet for a reason: many shops open late. Visit Seoul lists 11am openings at Glow Seongsu and Postes Seongsu and 11:30am at Repertory Seongsu, while Olive Young N Seongsu opens at 10am.
Weekdays are busy too, only less so. Korea JoongAng Daily reported that on a Monday in September 2026 some fragrance shops were packed by noon and the smaller ones had little room to move by 1pm.
Leave before the evening commute. Seongsu is also an office district, and Kyunghyang Shinmun reported in September 2025 that Seongsu Station's Exit 3, which faces company headquarters, is the pinch point when workers head home. Our pick: shop from 11am, walk to Seoul Forest in the afternoon, and take the train home from Ttukseom or Seoul Forest Station.
Should you stay in Seongsu?
Only if shopping is the point of the trip. For a first visit, Myeongdong and Hongdae are the usual bases, and both are a subway ride from Seongsu, Hongdae on the same Line 2. Staying there and coming over for the day keeps the rest of Seoul within easy reach.
